The Kiwanis moment that stands out the most for Fred is when he and Nancy were in the Philippines. Fred and Nancy had brought over 300 books for Kindergarten and primary school children in support of the Philippine South Governors project. As Fred was handing out books to Kindergarten children, for many it was the first book that they had ever owned, all of the children were saying "thank you" except for one little girl. Instead of saying thank you she leaned forward and gave Fred a kiss on the cheek. Fred's tears prevented him from seeing the next few children to whom he gave books. That is the very essence of making a difference in the world, one child and one community at a time.
There is one other Kiwanis experience that will never be forgotten even though it doesn't really fall into the category of a Kiwanis Moment. During the 2013 Kiwanis International Convention in Vancouver, Fred was asked to attend the Awards Breakfast at the Circle K International Convention which was going on at the same time. During the Awards presentation, it was announced that Fred was the recipient of the Circle K International Humanitarian of the Year.
